Valentine Card Painting Workshop with Christine Thornton

Come join us and "Create a Quote of Art". Choose from many designs and quotes to create your own Valentine card in this fun art class. Draw with pencil, outline with permanent marker, then paint with watercolor pencils under Christine's guidance. Each final painting can be glued onto paper and turned into a card. (Makes 1-3 cards total.)

Machine Carve a Bottle Opener

Nonfiction at Night

Join us on Monday evenings to discuss a broad selection of nonfiction. This month's selection is Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann. In the 1920s, the richest people per capita in the world were members of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma. After oil was discovered beneath their land, they rode in chauffeured automobiles, built mansions, and sent their children to study in Europe. Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off.

This FREE monthly Frankfort Chamber of Commerce event is open to the public.  We will begin with networking until 8:00 am at which time we will have a short educational presentation presented by our Chamber Staff.  They will speak with us about the benefits of membership.  After that we will welcome new members and then all members will be invited to share their 30 second business commercial.

This month's selection is Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney. 85 year old Lillian Boxfish sets out for a walk throughout New York City on New Year's Eve. As she walks she reminisces about her past and meets many characters. Wearing her mink and without fear, this retired ad exec and poet paints a wonderful picture of the city and city life.

Craft Supply Swap

Do you have extra craft supplies hanging around at home?  Do you love getting new items for your projects?  Your unwanted supplies in good and usable condition could be someone's inspiration or must have item.  Come to our craft supply swap on Saturday, February 24, to meet other crafters and refresh your supply closet. 

Cost of admission: One non-perishable food item for our Frankfort Township Food Pantry. 
Don't forget a bag or two to carry your goodies home. Limit: two bags per person.

Donations of craft supplies will be accepted from Monday, February 12 until Thursday, February 22. 
If you wish to donate craft supplies:
  • Items must be in clean and usable condition.  Items can be incomplete, i.e. a bottle of paint that is half full and not dried up. Bring your supplies to the West End library desk. 
  • We are seeking donations of extra or unwanted craft supplies: yarn, thread, pattern books, embroidery kits, knitting needles, scrapbooking materials, beading supplies, ribbon, sewing materials, paint/pencil crafts, etc.
  • Anyone who drops off craft supplies will be given a ticket for free admission on the day of the swap. 
  • At the end of the program, the library reserves the right to take unwanted and left behind supplies for future library programming.
  • Leftover supplies will be donated to Goodwill.

Homeschool Art and Sharing Time (PreK-Grade 5 with Adult)

How to Hem Pants with a Sewing Machine

Do you have trouble finding a pair of pants that are the perfect length? Save yourself the time and cost of taking them somewhere and learn how to do it yourself. No sewing experience required! Sewing machines and materials will be provided. 

In this class you will:
1. Learn the basics of using our sewing machines. 
2. Practice hemming on a pair of pants we provide. 

If time allows, you may be able to hem your own pants (bring your own thread) or, we can schedule a time for you to come back and use a sewing machine.

Fan Fest 2018

Join us for FPLD Fan Fest, a day of fun, trivia, art, and raffles! Comics, prints, merchandise, and original art will be available for purchase in Artists' Alley and various merchandise will be raffled off throughout the day. Get lightsaber training and take pictures with the Chicago Jedi. Hear music performed by pianist Chris Valera. Kids in grades 3-5 can attend a Jedi Drawing Workshop. Artists' Alley @ FPLD Fan Fest

An array of Chicago-area artists will showcase their work. From prints and original art to accessories and comics, all will be available to purchase. Frankfort's favorite comic shop, Amazing Fantasy Books & Comics, will also have a variety of items for fans of all ages.

We will have returning artists Trevor Mueller and Steve Palenica, as well as? Adam Fotos, Becca Farrow, Catherine & Sarah Satrun, Luke Daab, Connie Faye, Amber Robinson, and the guys from Unshaven Comics. Vendors include I Sew Made This and Owl Post Greetings.

Visit different tables to earn entries into our raffle! Raffle prizes include merchandise and prints from various artists, and a small sketch by Jeffrey Brown!

Star Wars Trivia @ FPLD Fan Fest

Test your knowledge of the Star Wars universe! Register as an individual, a small group, or a team of up to 5 people. Individuals and small groups will be assigned to teams, and the winning team will win passes to C2E2 for Sunday, April 8, 2018. For adults and teens age 13+. Register online or call 815-534-6173.

Trivia Rules:
Contest starts promptly at 11 am. Doors open at 10:30 am.
Suggested team size is 5 people. Individuals and smaller groups will be assigned to teams.
Team number/name and answers to all questions must be written on the answer sheet handed out with each round.
There will be three rounds of live trivia.
There will also be sheets of trivia questions that teams will work on at their tables between rounds.  
No cell phones, laptops, tablets, electronic equipment, books, etc. may be used to obtain answers.
A tie-breaker will be used if necessary.
All decisions by the judges are final.
